What is SideSong?
SideSong is a free web app for listening to music together in real time. Play a song and it becomes a live room with everyone playing it right now, listening in sync, where you can chat, react, wave at each other and become friends. Music plays through YouTube’s official player.
Is SideSong free?
Yes. SideSong is free to use and doesn’t add ads of its own. You need a free account (Google or email) so people know who they are listening with. SideSong is for people 18 and over.
Do I need Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Premium?
No. Songs play through YouTube’s official embedded player, so anyone with a web browser can listen. Nobody in the room needs a paid music subscription. Without YouTube Premium, YouTube may show its own ads in the player.
Will I see ads on SideSong?
SideSong doesn’t insert any ads of its own. Music plays in YouTube’s official player, and YouTube may show its own ads there under its policies (not with YouTube Premium). SideSong never skips, blocks or changes them.
How do I listen to music with a friend who is far away?
Open the song on SideSong and send your friend the room link (Invite, then Share link). The link opens the room at the moment you’re at, so you listen together in sync, with chat alongside. Friends on SideSong can also be invited straight from the room.
Can I meet new people on SideSong?
Yes. Every song is a room anyone can join, so you can wave at someone listening to the same song; if they wave back you become friends. Music Twins shows active people whose real plays and likes overlap yours. Blind (18+) matches you with a stranger for three songs, and names are only shown if you both wave.
Who can message me? Is it safe?
Only your friends can message you, send you songs or invite you to a room. You choose who can send friend requests (everyone, friends of friends or nobody), you can be invisible in rooms, and you can block or report anyone from their name. Blind chat blocks phone numbers, social handles and links.
