Safety & community guidelines

SideSong is for listening together: with friends, and with people who love the same song. Here are the tools you have to stay in control, and the few rules everyone here agrees to.

You decide who can reach you

• Only your friends can message you, send you song drops or invite you to a room.
• Choose who can send you friend requests: everyone, friends of friends, or nobody (Settings).
• Declining a friend request is silent. The other person isn't told.
• A Wave can only come from someone in the same room as you, right now, once a day, and it follows your friend request setting. Wave back and you're friends; ignore it and nothing happens.

You decide what people see

• Invisible in rooms (Edit profile): listen without showing up in Who's here or to your friends.
• Who sees your plays, likes and listening clock: friends (the default), everyone, or only you.
• Turn off Show me in Music Twins in Settings and you won't be suggested to people with similar taste.
• A shared room link shows first names and photos only of people who are visible, never of invisible listeners or people hidden from Music Twins. The first page of SideSong never shows who is listening.

Block and report

• Block anyone from their profile (⋯), from a conversation (⋯), or by tapping their message in a room's chat. Blocking ends a friendship, stops messages both ways, and hides their room chat and moments from you. SideSong doesn't send them a notice. You can unblock in Settings.
• Report harassment or bullying, hate speech, sexual content, spam or scams, or something else. The message you report is attached for you. Reports are read by the people who run SideSong, and we may remove content and suspend or delete accounts.
• The host of a Night can remove people from it.

Blind: three songs with a stranger

• 18 and over only.
• You see an alias, a taste match and artists you share. Names and photos stay hidden unless you both wave.
• Chat can't carry contact details (emails, phone numbers, links, @handles, Instagram, WhatsApp and the like) until you both wave.
• Pass ends it quietly and deletes the chat.
• Report ends the session and keeps the chat with the report. Three Blind reports and someone can't use Blind again.
• You're never matched with a friend, someone you blocked, or someone you've already met in Blind. Up to five sessions a day.

What isn't allowed

• Harassment, bullying, threats or hate.
• Sexual content, and anything involving minors in a sexual way.
• Spam, scams or ads.
• Sharing someone else's private information.
• Pretending to be someone else. One person, one account.
• Anything illegal, or using SideSong to get around YouTube's rules.
• You need to be at least 13 to use SideSong, and 18 for Blind.

If someone is in danger

SideSong can't help in an emergency. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.

Leaving

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. What that removes is in the Privacy Policy. Questions? email us at hello@sidesong.com.
